Sharda World School witnessed an exciting display of intellect, concentration, and strategic thinking as it hosted the Inter-House Chess Competition – Checkmate Championship on 9 May 2026. The competition was organized for students of the Middle and Senior School categories (Classes VI to XII) and took place in the Tuck Shop Area/Sports Arena of the school campus.

The event brought together talented young chess enthusiasts from the school's four houses—Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Air Nomad, and Fire Nation. Representing their respective houses, students competed with determination and sportsmanship, demonstrating remarkable analytical skills and presence of mind throughout the tournament.

The boys' category featured intense matches, with Fire Nation facing Water Tribe in the opening round and Earth Kingdom competing against Air Nomad. Both Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom secured victories in their respective matches and advanced with confidence. In the girls' category, Fire Nation competed against Earth Kingdom, while Water Tribe faced Air Nomad in another closely contested match.

After a series of challenging games, the final standings were declared. In the boys' category, Earth Kingdom emerged as the champions, while Fire Nation secured the runner-up position. In the girls' category, Fire Nation claimed the championship title, with Water Tribe finishing as runners-up.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the tournament was the girls' competition, where all teams remained tied on points until the conclusion of the second round. The final rankings were ultimately determined based on the number of illegal moves committed during the matches, highlighting the importance of precision and discipline in the game of chess.

The championship served as an excellent platform for students to develop and showcase essential life skills such as critical thinking, decision-making, patience, focus, and strategic planning. Participants displayed exemplary sportsmanship and discipline, making the event both engaging and inspiring.

The school leadership and faculty members appreciated the efforts of all participants and emphasized the significance of such competitions in nurturing intellectual growth and fostering a spirit of healthy competition among students.

The event was graced by Head of School Mr. Satyaki Banerjee, Vice Principal Ms. Neeta Rani, sports coaches, and faculty members, whose encouragement added to the enthusiasm and success of the championship.

The Checkmate Championship concluded on a high note, leaving students motivated to continue sharpening their minds and pursuing excellence both inside and outside the classroom.
